Today is Will and Luc’s birthday. It seems like only a few years ago my pregnant wife said to me “You are 41 years old and when these twins are 21, you’ll be 62. How will you be a father to them at that age?” Well, they just turned 21 today and just as she predicted, I am indeed 62 years of age! Nostradamus couldn’t have called it any closer!
Harrington_02LOL… The point is that I have been a pretty good father to them and maybe it was because of them being born late in my life. I got all the drama and dollar chasing out of my system by 50 and finally understood what was of real importance in this world.
I woke up early and broke camp with the intention of cycling to the nearest McDonalds and emailing Luc & Will on their birthday, but the WiFi at Mc’s was dead slow and all I could get sent out was a simple HAPPY BIRTHDAY! before I lost the connection. Tonight I am in a caravan park run by the BaptistHarrington_04 church. They only charged me $15 which considering it is Easter vacation, is a real bargain. The other parks I checked wanted $60 for an unpowered tent site! I biked 100k today and was trying to make it to Violet Hill in the national park but it was beginning to get dark and my bike headlight burned out yesterday so there will be no night riding. Just when I was about to break the law and camp on a deserted beach, I rode up on this church campground.  I figured I was riding into an organized facility when I saw all the signs forbidding alcoholic beverages, cursing and nudity. There was also a sign for no pets and another for no bikes… But I rode in anyway. What can I say? I’m a rebel!  So I am now snug in my tent and charging up the IPad and phones for use tomorrow.  I also got a much needed hot shower. The solar shower turned out to be less than ideal. It lay in the sun for an entire day and then only was moderately warm. I think if this was going to be a regular part of my kit, I would supplement the sun warmed water with a teapot of boiling water. This would do the trick and kick it up a notch for a real hot shower while bush camping.
